Sick Policy
In order to protect the children in my care, I ask that parents please assist me by keeping sick children at home.
In the event that a child becomes sick while in my care the emergency contact/family member will be notified and arrangements for immediate pick up will be made. Children with infectious illness can not attend until they get better.
Symptoms to watch out for:
Fever 99.9 and higher, this includes the night/morning of daycare. No fever for 24 hours without taking fever reducing medication. If you give your child medicine the night before then that still means they can not come to daycare the next morning.
Rash-unexplained rash-please consult doctor before child returns to daycare.
Vomiting or/and Diarrhea: All symptoms must be gone and not vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours.
Strep Throat - your child must be on a prescription of antibiotics for more than 24 hours and without a fever.
Flu/Bronchitis/Pneumonia - This usually take 2-3 days before they can come back to daycare. Must be on prescription antibiotics and no fever for at least 24 hours.
Ear Infection - Child must be on antibiotics and no fever for at least 24 hours before returning.
Conjunctivitis- (red eyes with yellow discharge). Child must be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours.
Head Lice - Usually takes 24 hours to treat head and house. When all nits have been removed and child is cleared from the doctor. Any past history of head lice, I need to be notified before I can watch your child.
Common Cold
Children suffering from a common cold will be assessed on an individual basis. Factors of consideration include the development of your child in congruence with my ability to limit the spread of germs. The younger your child, the more difficult it is to keep the germs down. For example: hand to face contact, mouthing of toys, uncontrolled nasal discharge, uncovered sneezing, and coughing etc. Also when caring for an ill child, the ability to provide high quality care to all of the other child is jeopardized. A child may return when he or she is free from symptoms and no longer infectious. The child should also be well enough to actively participate throughout the day. In any case of serious or unexplained illness, a doctor's medical clearance may be required prior to admission back into care.
Medications:
Parents that wish to have me administring over the counter medications to your children must have a signed medical form, or a signed letter of permission to alllow me to administer these medications to your child.
Notification:
If your child is sick, please notify me by phone or email, and please provide me their symptoms.
My day care will be closed if my family is to become ill. A contract will be issued to each family with details on paid sick days and other unforeseen closers.
If you have any questions concerning this policy and whether your child should attend, please call me before bringing your child.
Please be courteous of all children in my service, and refrain from bringing an ill child until 24 hours have passed since fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or any other communicable symptoms have occurred.
